New Car. Auto 4 Dr. Sedan. Direct me to easy 40+MPG
Hello,
I purchased a 2010 Yaris Automatic Sedan last week. I read up about DFCO but I am not sure how it would work on an automatic... so I not sure if this applies to me. I plan to increase my air pressure up to 40PSI. I also been driving at 60mph on the first tank. I know slimmer tires are better. I currently ave 185 /60R15. What size tire can I safely put on. Thanks! |

DFCO applies to automatics too...
Your present tire size is good! Keep your RPM's under 2,300 and speed under 55MPH. Drive like an egg is under your accelerator. Drive more highway miles too! Good link for further gas efficiency: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5979 Driver style is everything. Happy trails to you... Cheers!

If you're real serious about it, you can cut back on any extra weight by:
1. removing spare tire/jack/etc (I wouldn't recommend, but some do it) 2. remove rear seats 3. diet (your name is fatlard after all :P) I started off keeping revs low and accellerating slowly, but got tired of that and opted to add performance parts (exhaust, intake, more on the way). Right now I'm able to drive pretty spiritedly and still average 35mpg city (which is what I was getting by driving slowly before). My daily commute dictates that I never drive more than 1 mile without stopping, and average speed limit on the roads is 45mph.

Yeah. cutting down weight would be great!
I filled up my tank today... my MPG for the first gallon is 41.5mpg! |

I added about 250 pounds of sound deadening material and sound system upgrade, and still get 43 MPG in summer and 39 MPG in winter.
122 mile commute 70% highway (75mph) and 30% backroads (40mph) I guess the weight and speed helps the inertia work in my favor. LOL D.
