Mini cable?

Okay, I gave myself a headache standing in the electronics aisle of WalMart trying to figure out how to play my old Sony Walkman cassette player via that MP3 auxillary jack. EVERYTHING was for "iPhone"... Finally ended up with a 6' 3.5mm Audio Cable; "DRIVEPLAYLISTEN" which says it's for iPod (Belkin); before I open the package, is there something else I should buy?

Try Target, they have the double-ended cable that retracts. It is really nifty to use and costs under ten bucks...

Cheers! M2

male to male cord/connector. ask exactly for that, you will be fine. it should have what looks like a headphone jack on each end. usually found in stereo or tv section.

You’re looking for a 3 channel 2.5 mm or 1/4” double ended cord. When they look at you like your high or something tell them it looks like a head phone jack, some cord, and a head phone jack.

You don’t need the gold ends or anything like that.

the internet isn't always the easiest way to find the answer you are looking for. Radioshack is always my goto guys when clerks at other stores feed me misinformation.. Don't get me started on wally-mart

Just be sure you get the right size for each end. Walkmans should be 1/8" stereo (three contacts on the plug) and I think the Yaris input is 1/8" as well.

Something like this:

or this:

So is this 3.5mm audio cable the correct size? Math-challenged here.

I thought they were 2.5 mm or 1/4”. But now that I think about it there is no way I’m right.

I did think about it and the ear phone cable is 1/8” not 1/4”.

Um, I guess I'll just try it; there was nothing called "mini-cable" where I looked. Six feet long, though; that's ridiculous!

It won't necessarily be called that. For example here's a radioshack one for $7.49, which is called a "6-Ft. Shielded Cable, 1/8" Stereo Plug to 1/8" Stereo Plug".

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2102949

This is what the ends will look like:

And, if you want a shorter one; Here's a 3ft pink one:

Yes 3.5mm would be the equivalent of 1/8".

The 2.5mm are usually reserved for cell phones and other newer/smaller electronics, in which case you'd need a 2.5mm to 3.5mm male to male 3 conductor. Since you are using it with a walkman then 3.5 is the way to go.

Don't let the iPhone/iPod branding fool you - it's just marketing.

No worries - at least you tried to help! Just an FYI - 1/4" are reserved for Guitars, audio patch cables and larger headphones.
