Specific Subwoofer/Amp Question

I have a 10" Rockford Fosgate Punch He2 subwoofer. It can do 400watt RMS and 800watt Peak. I am looking for an amp to power this guy. I've narrowed it down to either an Alpine MRP-M450 or a Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-1. I would like to know which people prefer. I like the idea of the RF's gain remote, but am unsure if that amp will drive this subwoofer sufficiently. (it can do 300watt RMS, but I've been reading that RF's amps are underrated, is that true?)

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks.

I'd say it's a toss up really. Whichever route you go both of the amps will suffice quite well. If it were me I'd go with the Alpine just because the for sure extra 150 RMS is nice to have and i dont use gain remotes as they often do more bad than good I've found.

Just set the gains etc manually on the amp so that you can have some leeway on the gains on your HU and you should be just fine.

Choose what you like, both will make the HE2 move nicely.

You and someone else are the exact people I was looking to peak interest with this post. I personally want the Rockford Fosgate P500-1bd, but I don't think I can afford it. www.sonicelectronix.com is where I get all my gear, and they aren't carrying it.

I also wondered about Gain remotes. From what I have read on, what they do, it doesn't sound like they do anything in the good area. Should just set your gain where it needs to be and leave it alone. I think my HU can take care of the rest.

looks like the alpine is where I am going. Thanks for your input. ...and let me know if I should be getting my gear elsewhere than sonicelectronix.com. Thanks!!

I've used sonicelectronix.com myself for some gear . . . their prices are great, but in many cases the reason their prices are so low is that they are so called "grey market" sellers for some of their stuff - they are not (in most cases) authorized retailers so the only warranty you get is directly from them. The last Alpine amp I bought from them had the serial number removed, so I can not go to Alpine to get it fixed if it ever dies (but damn the price was good) - if you can live with that then the risk may be worth it

...I can live with that.

I've purchased from them, thus far, a 4chan Alpine Amp, and 2 sets of polk speakers.

Never been a fan of Fosgate..I put them in the same lines as Audiobahn..If its loud and it shakes your car then it sounds good is thier moto.. I would go with the Alpine amp if it was me.

Would you mind posting pics of the panel removal process that is required top lay down the wiring? I haven't been able to find a tutorial on how to install the wiring from the from to the back for an amplifier. Good luck btw.

Just wanted to point out that I got the p500-1bd installed and it sounds super awesome with my Rockford Fosgate He2 10". Plenty of bump in my trunk.
