Did I pay too much? 5dr S LB Auto w/power+
My family just purchased a new 2009 Polar White/Dark Charcoal Automatic 5dr S Liftback w/Power Package with Options (cruise control, all-weather guard package, remote keyless entry, etc). We didn't do as much homework on the pricing of the car as we normally do when we go car shopping, so I was just wondering if I screwed myself by doing so. We paid $16,850 before taxes, title, destination fee, etc. with 0% financing for 60 months. We also bought the Economy 6yr/75k miles extended warranty for about $1800, if that matters.
I tried searching for how much other people paid, but I had a hard time finding the prices for all the same specs (mostly found prices for 3dr non-S LB). I know it's a little too late to be asking, but I'm just curious. Regardless of whether or not I did pay too much, I am still loving this car and am very excited to be a part of this community! Thanks for your input everyone |

$16,850 + 1179.50 (sales tax) + $1800 (warranty) + destination fee=
over $20,000 out the door, unless the $1800 warranty was part of the $16,850. if not, that is a little painful to see. the warranty , IMO, is completely unnecessary on the Yaris, and ive seen plenty of dealers offer a 7 yr/100k warranty for $800 (still a waste of $$, IMO). |

Yes, you can always cancel the warranty. If the car can't make it 75k miles without falling apart, I don't want it anyway!
You paid quite a bit more than I paid for my 09 sedan with power package (cruise, power windows/locks/mirrors, keyless entry, etc.). I paid $15,800 out the door, which I still thought was too much. |

I had a feeling we should've waited a little longer to do some more research, so I guess it serves me right. I'll look into the details of the warranty again, but I'll most likely cancel it. At least the 0% financing will help minimize the damage on my somewhat hasty purchase. Thanks everyone!

Mikey: Enjoy that car and don't worry about what is already done, except that I WOULD get my money back on that warranty, if I were you. You have a great little car, and you should congratulate yourself on being smart enough to get a Yaris. If you paid a little more than you might have paid by shopping around and doing a little more research, so what? It "ain't no biggie." If getting the best possible deal had been so important, you would have taken more time, right? I would hate to see your enthusiasm for the new car be dampened by worrying about how much less you might have been able to buy it for. Congratulations on your purchase of a Yaris. Now go have some fun! Tomster |

The 0% APR will save you a few thousand, so it'll probably end up equal in the end. You may have been able to find a better price, but if you had to pay for financing, it wouldn't have mattered all that much.
Like's been said, I'd cancel the extended warranty. |

An "Economy" warr for $1800! I got the no deductable Platinum for $659. The zero APR is a sweet deal though......
Sounds like a real nice pick, please post pics. Congrats!

Yes you overpaid, and I would cancel that extended warranty. I got my base + CP Yaris for $13,000 out the door (that includes MA 5% sales tas). Figure your options cost MAYBE 2k more you should have got it for around 15ish OTD.

0% interest is a sweet deal. Congratulations on your new car.
I also did something stupid when I bought my Yaris (used); I didn't realize that a new Yaris would cost little more than what I paid for my used one. Oh well, live and learn I' d rather have the money in my pocket actually, so no regrets. Toyota has extended their 0% interest offer to Matrixes, too, now I would never admit to it on a public forum or anything but I do have Matrix envy ![]() Anyway, congrats on your purchase! Let see some pictures now!

By the way, I forgot. You might want to check and see if you can write the sales tax off your taxes next year. I know in California, we could (new cars only, though).

That's a Federal thing. I've written off my sales tax, for cars, motorcycles and general purposes, since 2006. This is not a new thing, it's just been brought up a lot since the last election. I use Turbo Tax and it asks about your purchases for that very reason.

Sorry for the delay...and sorry for the camera phone quality, but it's all I have at the moment. I'd take some pictures right now, except it's raining pretty heavily so that will have to wait...but onto the show!

Good to know it's an ongoing thing, though. Hope they don't decide to take that away. |

I've also heard that congress is trying to pass a bill/law/whatever you want to call it that will give you money/tax credit if you trade in your current low fuel economy car for a new fuel efficient one. If your new car has an improved fuel efficiency over your old one by 10+ MPG, I think you qualify for the max credit of around $4k. Hopefully this passes!
