Auto Up and Down for Windows? - Toyota Yaris Forums

Hey guys,

I have a 07 Yaris Sedan with power windows and though I love my car there are a few things that my 09 TSX has that I wish my Yaris had. One of those things is the auto up/down feature.

The Yaris has the auto DOWN for the driver's side window but I would like it for the passenger's side as well. Also, the TSX has a auto UP feature that is great that I would like to install in the Yaris ...

Does anyone know if this is possible?

It's possible but you would probably have to buy a new window control unit that has the option of both auto, shop around an electronics auto shop they have tons of aftermarket power window units.

There was a post about this a few weeks ago. The EWD's and service manual don't have enough info, so I looked into it a bit when I had my doors apart to replace the fabric with leather. The master switch module has a circuit board with some active electronics for doing the auto-down of the driver's window.

The easiest way to do it would be with a little module that senses the user double pressing on the up or down switch (or something of that nature) and then, based on that, going into auto-up or auto-down mode on the selected window (which would just be a case of holding the circuit closed for the period of time required to bring the window up or down).

I have plans to make such a module for my moon roof. It doesn't have the auto open/close mode (as that is a $100 option), and I hate having to hold my finger to the switch for the 5 seconds that it takes to open or close it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the auto-down feature in the '07 sedan involve the use of a double switch? If I don't push it down all the way it's normal, but if I push it down as far as possible, the auto-down feature activates (a bit too sensitive for me though).

So per CTScott, you'd still have the 'double switch' for the driver's side and some kind of 'double-tap' electronics for the other 3?

Correct.

You will have to sense the current through the window motors. If the windows are completely shut, open or there is a blocking (i.e. your finger) the current through the motor will rise and power should be cut.

After market modules wil go into "auto" mode when you tap the switch short and will operate in manual mode when you hold the button longer until the desired position is reached.

Current sensing for safety is definitely not a bad idea.

For $49, the DEI 530T is a quick and easy solution. 2 530T's would be required for a 4 door car.
