Beeping noise when opening door?

Maybe I'm just being too picky, but is the driver's side door supposed to beep when I open up the car?

To unlock the car, I usually use remote keyless entry. If I hit it thrice to unlock all the doors*, and then open up the passenger's door, it does it peaceably. But if I hit it once and open up the driver's side door, it makes one continuous beeping noise (the same as the headlight noise when you stop the car and open the door without turning off the lamps, except they're not even on) that lasts for 20 seconds or until I close the door, whichever comes first.

It seems, moreover, that if I unlock the door and don't actually open it until about half a minute later, the beeping noise doesn't happen.

Is there some kind of Toyota failsafe that wants you to know, despite the fact that you've just opened the door yourself, that the door is, by the way, open? I've tried hitting buttons, flicking levers, moving switches, etc. while the beeping noise is going on, but nothing ever seems to quell it.

*which doesn't always work, but that's another matter altogether

Do you have an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry system?

Well, I'm glad to know that I'm not making a fuss about something that's supposed to be there. I thought it was stupid for the car to remind me that I'd opened a door when I still have the door handle in my hand. Also, when I unlock the door manually, nothing beeps, which seemed to indicate that it shouldn't when I unlock it keyless-ly, either.

The car is new, as of March, and the keyless entry was purchased from and programmed by the dealer. I've never left my lights on unintentionally, neither the inside lights nor the headlights.

Do you guys think the dealership would be able to figure out what is going on? I read through a few threads about disabling the seatbelt alarm, and many people seem to know more than the dealership does, which is why I thought I'd bring the problem here first.

Is the keyless entry the real Toyota one (with the remote being part of the key) or an aftermarket one (with a separate key fob)?

If that's the way it's defined, then yes, it's aftermarket, a separate fob. Damn. You think that's making the difference?

Mine with the Toyota keyless entry doesn't beep until I put the key in the ignition with the door open.

Probably. For Toyota OEM systems they have a detailed OEM installation manual. For aftermarket ones it's not so cut and dry.

If you received the manual for the one that they installed, take a look at the "programming" section. There may be a simple way to turn off the open door beeping mode.

I didn't get a manual with it, but I Googled the info on the back of the fob and found this one: http://auto.owneriq.net/manuals/mfg/.../prooe3b4.html

I can't make heads or tails of what it means, however. "Valet push-button switch", indeed. I mean, really.

That's just the manual for programming the transmitters. You need the one for configuring the whole system. The "valet" switch is used for the configuration process. I always tuck mine behind a panel under the dash, as I never use it for "valet" mode, just for configuring things on the unit.

i could be way off on this but, when u unlock the car, does ur alarm/keyless entry turn the headlights on for a short time?...i have an aftermarket alarm on my LB and when i disarm it, it flashes the lights a few times so, if i quickly open the door while it's flashing the lights, the car gives me a couple beeps (which is actually the beep for the headlights being on while the car is off)...might it be possible that your alarm (like the stock keyless entry in my fiances benz) turns your headlights on for a short time upon disarm and that's what's causing the beep?...if not, disregard all of the above lol...
