Thumbs down Close call on a highway.

Driving, minding my own business, when a semi truck starts to swerve into my lane. No trucks or buses are allowed in the left lane.

Watch the video and ignore the gay radio song

All too familar.

I commute 50 miles a day...most of which is on the highway. I tell my wife all of the time that one day she's going to get a phone call from the State Police to come identify me...or what's left of me...once they dig me out of the fenderwell of some semi that is.

seriously? you do know that i drive a yaris. i was in 5th gear cruising at 65mph. does it look like i could of passed him if I would of floored it? I swerved into the shoulder where my car can fit easily as it was its own lane and then I slowed down.

He already said he was in 5th, and from the video if the truck turned faster, he would have been squished if he accelerated. Braking was the correct response without a sliver of doubt.

Not to mention you couldn't see the other side of the truck, there could have been something passing the truck on the right which you would have accelerated right in to...

I think I would have tried to avoid somehow, too.
Did you lay on the horn as well? Even with the wimpy horn, (I haven't upgraded yet),
I certainly would have let him/her know I was there. Maybe the driver was texting...

Yo man I dun seen all them Fast&Furious movies and if I lernd any thing frum them its that you shoulda hit the nitrus boost button and left that asshole in tha dust...

No really though, it's easy to criticize something you see in a video, but your reaction kept you from getting hit. Didn't look to me like you had time to downshift and get ahead.

Let's be honest, the Yaris is a nice car, but it's no rocket in the acceleration department.

Count your lucky stars. I lost my last car to a fully-loaded big-rig on the freeway. I only suffered a few small cuts but the front of car was torn to pieces.

And that's a very smart move to drive with a camera. In this lawsuit-happy world we live in it's always good for the little guy to have proper evidence to back him up while on the road (especially in LA). What kind of camera is that BTW?

I'm liking that dash cam.

I've seen different versions on the net and thought about getting one myself.

Now that you have dirt cheap cameras and flash memory cards it makes me wonder how long it will be before this type of system is offered as optional or even standard equipment on cars.

That camera is awesome.

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago, except it was just a car. No signal light, the guy just started drifting into my lane. I did the same thing as you did and dropped back out of his way. I pulled up beside him and, sure enough, he was on his cell phone. I honked, flipped him off, and drove away. At the red light just past the off-ramp, he put down his window and yelled at me to watch were I'm going. I told him to get off his phone and drive his car. He called me a bitch and sped off. Classy, classy, dude.

All these dash cams i see are nice and all but it doesnt beat a good ole fashion headrest mount with a portable HD camcorder, the Kodak Zi8 does 720p at 60FPS, plus you definitely need to record the speedo cluster.

I really expected some Explicit words when that happened. Glad you ok.
