Upgrading my Yaris, clueless.

Hey everyone, Im new to the community and am looking for a couple upgrades to my 2010 yaris 2d hatch. This car is completely stocked and I am not so knowledgeable when it comes to this but I am trying to be, so Im not sure what Im looking for either. What I would love is to be able to hear my car from the inside. Having a stickshift be so quiet should be a sin I have to turn the music down or off to hear the beautiful hum of the engine.

No budget right now but Id like to get a list of affordable items together. Ive been looking at K&N CAI and Air Filters. Ive also been reading about lowering the vehicle. Also any purely aesthetic suggestion is ok.

Thanks.

A better question is what are you looking to do with your car? What are you willing to give up ie (ride quality, driveability, noise, etc) once you have those figured out then you can start on what should or will be upgraded.

Looking to enjoy driving my vehicle overall, regardless of a direct loss or gain. Just love what I drive.

My favorite bang for the buck was the rear sway bar. In Texas they have freeway under pass turnarounds. [legal u-turns] and the sway bar was key for being able to throw the car into those about 10mph faster and keep accelerating till you squirt out the other side. 4 door trucks don't understand how their big v-8s couldn't keep up with my cracker box.

minimal loss of ride quality, maximum gain in corner performance. and easily installed by novice.

oops. thats suspension talk not performance. the one draw back to some CAI is having to unbutton the front bumper to service it. and its relatively low position considering you live in a state that gets a lot of rain. the Short ram may be a better option if you know your commute sees some deep puddles on rainy days.
I like the quality and performance of my Injen though.

Thanks for the reply. Ive been looking into CAI. We do get rain but my state is generally flat, so not many puddles. Ill also check out your PM Cali Yaris.

before i did springs i'd do a few other....cheaper more effective mods. you gotta prep the suspension before you make the changes. i'd do the sway bars and some strut bars, under-body tie ins. wheels, brakes (maybe not a huge kit or whatnot....but at least some good pads like hawk HPs or EBC green stuff).

do the supporting mods before, not when you get to the point where you must have them before your car is good. i wouldnt add a supercharger without having suspension, exhaust, engine internals, tuning and what-not. it's just not the way to do things.

start with the smaller more effective stuff and get more expensive and more potent as you go along. that way you get the most out of each mod.

sway bars
strut bars
under-body tie-ins
cold air kit
pulleys (up to this point, you havent done anything to change driveability)
header/exhaust (noisey)
brake pads/rear caliper kit
suspension (springs/coil-overs)

all above can be done under 1000 bux and does not void warranty. plus you wont change drive characteristics over roads and bumps, nor will you need to change alignment settings. and, all can be removed easily and within 1 day. with the exception of exhaust, the car will seem the same on the highway and normal driving.

Thanks for the replies to this. if anything I might throw in suspension and brake pads and grab the rear sway bar. Will pick up a CAI after that, followed by exhaust. The rims Ill have to worry about later...those are 1000 all by themselves w/o tires.

If your Yaris is black, I say go with silver or gunmetal, make the Black pop more. Ok time to go hunt down some parts and attempt to install them myself.

no has has asked, but since you mentioned you didn't like how quiet the car was, would you be averse to taking out the rear seat?

Removing weight helps every part of a vehicles performance, and you can hear a lot more as well. I love my car with no rear interior.
