I own a liftback, test drove a sedan... they both seem equally "zippy" for a small car. It comes down to what do you want to haul? People or stuff? If the answer is people, opt for the sedan with the 4 doors; if it's stuff you can't beat the liftback. It has more than enough room for whatever you want to carry with the rear seats down (& imo, it's cuter than the sedan).

i own an S model. it's good enough to haul people and their gear. the only thing that i don't like about it is that aftermarket parts are not as accessible as the liftback.

if you're looking to modify your Yaris, then opt for the liftback. if you carpool and/or have stuff to move, get the sedan.

For me, i wanted a sporty car, so i picked 3dr hb, we dont have the 5dr hatch in the US anyway, even if we did, i will still go with the 3dr hatch. personally for me, I think the sedan, wagon, and 5dr hatch are family cars, 2dr coupe and 3dr hatch are usually more sporty looking and because a sports car doesnt need all the extra door, also helps in order to reduce the unneeded weight, as well as the transmisstion on the car, Auto to me are used as family cars, and manuals are for performance, like sports cars, the color too, red, yellow, such as the Ferrari's and some blue are mostly for sports cars ,silver, black, and white are usually for luxury cars, such as the M-Benz. it is just my opinion, for family cars they can be any color, but not red nor yellow, in that case, a family with a sporty color will not be a good combo.
ANy way it really is up to the personal favor when u buy a car.

Cool love my S Sedan

I love my S Sedan. It fits 4 people comfortably (and my friends are all big 6 foot guys) and 5 people psuedo-comfortably*

I still have pretty decent trunk space...The body kits that come stock on the S sedan are pretty cool too...and it feels a bit more high-end on the inside than the liftback I testdrove.

...although I agree that if you're really trying to "mod" the car...go for the liftback.

I can't say enough good things about my car...and neither can anyone else! But do what makes your heart happy when you look at it!

THE SEDAN AUTOMATIC DOESNT HAVE A TACHOMETER BTW, JUST THE MANUAL, ANYWAYS YOU CAN STILL INSTALL AN ENGINE MONITOR FOR $400 WITH INSTALL... AND ITS STILL UP TO YOU ON WHAT YOU WANT,

THE SEDAN BASE IS LIGHTER THAN THE LB AND S TRIMS THOUGH. "2lbs lighter" LOL, THE S is the heaviest but looks fairly nice, like a shark on the road... THE LB HAS THE MOST UPGRADES BECAUSE ITS MOSTLY USED IN TIGHT CIRCUIT MOTORSPORTS.

The LB is different and gets the looks.

Just add a ScanGaugeII for $164.-$168. to get the Tach and much more.

In the mid-70's our daughter rode around in the back of our '74 ALFA Spider - on the package shelf - she was 7-8 yrs old. (Yes, that is now illegal.) We all liked the cars performance and it soon had a brother, a '71 ALFA Berlina 4dr Sedan, which we all fit into comfortably.

That's sort of the problem many here on thr Yaris Forum have. Solution: Buy both a HB and a Sedan!!!

well that, and if i'm not wrong, the LB has been in existence for how many years relative to the sedan, 5? and, the sedan is a new iteration designed specifically for the US? if so, give it time, mods will abound in short order given the demand and growing popularity of the Yaris. i've actually seen more sedans down here in South Florida, with only a sprinkle of the LBs here and there.

i agree with what's been said thus far. me and the wife would very likely have gone for the LB if there were a 5 door available in the US. then it'd be the best of both worlds. but since it's a split between the 3DR and the Sedan we went with the 4DR option because of the "people mover" option. imo, nothing is more ridiculous than going out for a night on the town and having your friends have to contort themselves out of the back of a coupe. even so, if we weren't planning on having kids in the next 5 years we would have been eyeing the 3DR to save money on the purchase.

Just like i said, 4dr/5dr/Auto/any color = Family, 2dr/3dr/Manual/red ,yellow, or some blue = Sporty, there... thats an easiest way to look at it, and if you are confused again, remember it again, 4dr/5dr/Auto/any color = Family, 2dr/3dr/Manual/red, yellow, or some blue = Sporty, hopefuly you understand what you want and pick the right one, because once you buy the car , theres no going back to the dealership

liftback all the way. they're rarer, which makes them very unique. still cant call it sexy, but it is very good looking. it perfectly fits our situation though. just check the signature. if we need a people mover, we use the van. if we need to haul crap, we use the van. if we need to go anywhere with the kids, we use the van. when the kids are asleep and canyon roads are calling, thats where the yaris comes into play...

My sedan I purchased has the tach and its an automatic..... I cant remember if only the sedan's have the tach or just the automatic sedan's. I do know that it was weird driving a manual hatchback (when I test drove them) that it did not have a tach to look at and the automatic sedan I test drove did. For some reason I am thinking that only the sedans with automatic came with the tach but I can not say forsure because I did not test drive a manual sedan.

The tach straight out of the Yaris brochure this is speaking of the sedan version.

[2] Tachometer standard on manual transmission only. Available on Sedan with automatic transmission and Power Package.

The LB certainly doesn't seem to be rarer among this board's users...but I do have to admit that I still haven't passed another one on the streets in Memphis, while I've seen three sedans. Actually, I may have seen more that three sedans, but only three have caught my attention. The sedan kinda blends in with...well...every other economy subcompact. If it weren't for the family resemblence of the front end between the LB and the sedan, I'm not sure I'd be able to pick one out from a lineup of Kias, Hyundai's and Saturns.

trust me, after having researched and seriously looked into the various sedan and hatchback options on the market the Yaris sedan stands out in the subcompact niche as being very well designed w/ good lines. the Saturn Ion is very outdated and the Kia and Hyundai models often look like completely different design teams frankensteined the car together. :S the '07 models for the latter companies r starting to change that, but when i first started looking, yikes!

arguably, the LB looks common, just like an oversized smartcar. ;) but how many of those do we see in the US?

For me, I like the hatchback for looks!

But I really fucking miss all that truck space of a sedan!

(it's not often (ever?) that I have my rear seats down... so I dont really benefit from the 'extra storage potential' of a hatchback)
