noob question: How many kms is too much for a Yaris?

WWYWD:

I had to sell all my toys to go back to post secondary Looking for the perfect commuter I did my research and was in a mad hunt for a '07-'09 Yaris (maybe a '94-'97 miata if the right priced one popped up ) because of the exceptional fuel economy and reliability.

My criteria was that it had to be standard and had to be a 3 door hatch with lower mileage I hate high mileage cars, but... I was reading through your forums and saw some people hitting close to 300k-400k miles without any major problems. This opened up my narrow mind to start searching into higher mileage territory.

What I'm really trying to get at is should I be very concerned about buying a higher mileage Yaris? Should I spend the extra $3000 - $5000 for one with less mileage? I read these cars use timing chains instead of belts, so what real major servicing is required? Even if I get a Yaris for cheap and have to replaced the engine in the future from a wrecker etc, it would still end up being cheaper...?

Here is one car I'm considering, it has 135,000 miles, 2007, $4500: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/nv...223603596.html

thanks.

I'd feel safe to say that as long as you get a Yaris that was maintained and not beat on too much, you really can't go wrong. A tough, stout little car that will keep on going through whatever you throw at it.

You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

I bought my 2007 Yaris RS 3 Dr LB in Edmonton ... and it had 162,000 KM and I paid 4500$. It was meticulously maintained at the dealer. So I had no concerns buying it. So really ... if it was maintained I wouldn't be too concerned, but if you cannot see the past maintenance records then I would be concerned. I have seen 2007's go for twice that much money, but usually much lower mileage than that.

Forget the Miata as its a one trick pony, anything outside a top down summer day in the twisties and its rather useless for much else,'hard ride and cramped.
Get the Miata later in life as a second fun to drive weekend apex shredder..
The Yaris if well maintained will easily achieve 300K and you got 4 seats, a much more practical car.

Ask for service history and carproof, if everything looks good, try to talk it down to $3500
