Coilovers vs TRD Suspension?
What is the main difference between coilovers vs trd lowering springs + trd shocks (http://www.toyotaracing.com/trd/part...tegories=all)?
Expecting more of a scientific answer as to how it works. Thanks!! |

Coilovers are made with full adjustability. Either height, bound and rebound or all of the above.
TRD springs + shocks are well just that... |

More then just that if you purchase proper springs and struts also for those that know what their doing. Same for coil overs you need to know what your doing or get help.

Adjustable ride height and spring rate vs. Static ride height and spring rate.
That's pretty much what it boils down to. No need to get scientific about it.

+1, coil overs give you adjust-ability of everything. ride height, shock stiffness, spring length / stiffness, it all boils down to what you want and how you want it. If your likings change, so can the coil overs. Lowering springs can be a let down if you don't already know exactly how you want it :x

You can also continue to swap in shorter and stiffer springs if you want to keep going lower, once you pickup some tein springs thats as short as you will go on springs/shocks combo and it is less than 2" of drop. Stiffer allows you to control spring rate and you can go into 1000 lb springs or higher if you so desire, springs probably dont go higher than 5-6k

Are there coil-over sets that match the stock ride height? Every coil-over kit I see for the Yaris is made for lowering.

The primary purpose of coilover is so a person can set height to whatever tickles their fancy. I do believe that with the spring perch at full up, a coilover matches, or comes close to, stock height.

Yup, stiffer spring rate at stock height. I'm not a fan of lowering my car, but I would like to try and improve the handling at the stock height. My car is probably due for new shocks and struts so I am just curious about the differences.

Most coil's won't go to stock height, but some will only lower it an inch or two. The Yaris sits so high an inch or two is not that big a deal unless you need to go off road a lot.
The real difference is in the ride. Some shocks like the Tokico Reds are adjustable, and can ride really softly, and so can some coilovers. Others are rather harsh.
