A/C always on

Seems the A/C on my 08 Yaris is always cycling on when vent is set to defrost position,why is this and is there a way i can turn off this automatic feature?

A/C is on to augment the defrost setting to help remove moisture from inside the vehicle. This greatly improves the ability to remove and prevent fogging on the window glass.

There are many discussion on this feature as well as queries on bypassing it. Search them out. I'm not going to. I think the easiest way might be to run a shorter serpentine belt and bypass the a/c pulley.

Yes it helps greatly to defog the windows.

It bothers me too but it sue would suck to hit something because I couldn't see out of the car!

There are mods in here to prevent the ac going on with defrost.

I remember my civic would do this too. on the civic you would turn all the dials all the way to the right, press and hold the rear defrost, recirc, and a/c buttons, then you would turn the ignition switch on. it would turn off the auto defrost. switches to the right to turn it on.
I have not found a procedure for Toyota yet...
