Sub Box - Toyota Yaris Forums

So here's my Sub Box. The start of it anyway. It's my first Fiberglass project. I've never done anything with it,
and it's hard as shit. I thought it would be easier, but I think I'm doing ok. Check it out!

nice start... cover the bumper also to protect it...

you going to fill this with water to find the volume of it??? what sub you using etc????

also this should be in the audio section...

Thanks for the suggestion, it was noticed, and action was taken

But that box does look like it would be a pain in the ass if you ever had to access the spare... I would a)reloate the spare or b) ditch the spare because if you put it under that box it is as good as dead weight

umm you went over the spare tire???

so to access the spare the whole box will have to be removed??? pain in the ass that will be...

why dont you put the sub inside the spare alloy? (i've seen several people done this before)

Thanks for all the input. There will be two ESA (circuit City brand) 12 inchers in there for now. A 760 watt Pioneer amp to go with my Pioneer deck. And later on when I save up some money I will get two Pioneer 12's. And I think I can make it easier to take out in case I need the spare. Maybe cutting it into two separate boxes. ?? We'll see :)

PS Thanks for moving this thread. Right as I hit the post button I was like "shit...oh well"

it will be easier th take out and access the spare, than driving on a flat back to your house to get it :)

So I just took out the box, and can I say...IT WAS A PAIN IN THE ASS!! But not because of the shape or anything.
I taped down the tinfoil so it wouldn't blow in the wind. But when it's done it will just lift, turn, and then come right out.
SWEET! it's just the way I wanted it to work out. Here's pics...

You are going to add some more layers though right? Its looking awefully thin there for a couple of subs. Project is looking good though

Make sure thats ported when youre done, that box is huge man!!!

Just because its big don't mean it needs to be ported

No really......But to be effective a ported box will be needed with this much air volume ;)

You cant run a lot of power on those subs and leave it sealed, it will not hit low and will burn up the voice coils for sure.

Not true, however, the box should be built with the speaker manufactures recommendation in mind.

effective... efficient... two completely different words... Most sealed boxes play lower than ported boxes cause most people use high tuned ported boxes. Low tunes boxes have to be huge... I'd bet $100 that the subs he's rolling in wouldn't fit properly in that size box unless tuned above 35hz.. maybe even above 40hz.

Also... no speaker is efficient... if you're lucky, a speaker will be 1% efficient.

Also... sealed boxes give a more sq oriented roll-off (frequency response) than 99% of all ported boxes, once again cause nobody seems to use properly designed ported boxes.

I say go sealed... and i'm a HUGE ported box lover.

EDIT: Oh yeah.... now comes the fun part... LET THE SANDING BEGIN! You gotta sand that thing... it'll make it look good. Sand it until it is as smooth as you can get it with 220-400grit. You can speed up the job by using body filler (rage gold works good). Once you get done sanding... do 2-3coats of primer... sanding after every two coats... and then start your REAL coats of paint... finish it up by waxing the box. It'll make it sooo much nicer... thats what I did with the box in my avatar (for the paint job)
