Newbie, be gentle!
Hi,
I'm sat here at home waiting for my Yaris to be delivered from Bangkok. I live 260km North East and the lovely sounding lady said she'd be here by 2pm. Funny. Back in England I used to drive Mercs and BMWs as an everyday car. Now I've given up all the pretence I'm eagerly awaiting the smallest car I've had in about ten years! Exciting! Will post pics and what not when I get settled in. Just wondered if you all had any points to watch out for when taking delivery or in the first few months, like teething troubles, etc... Look forward to ejoying the forum. Cheers, |

If you ordered a manual transmission it will take some time to get use to the throttle lag and the clutch dead zone. Most of us experienced some stalling problems due to this early on.

Welcome fellow farang, and congratulations on your choice of a great little car! There's a few of us lurking around this forum, so feel free to get in touch if you have any Thailand-specific questions about the car

Congrats... Finally, you're going to drive a quality automobile!
I found that the motor and transmission just got smoother and smoother (and more quiet) as I chalked up the miles. |

Thanks Folks!
Thats a real warm welcome. Just for the record. Of the 100Plus cars I've had the one I kept the longest was my Lexus GS300 I was going to buy a Jag but after driving the Lexus it was so quiet I was seduced to the dark side. Now the Yaris is at the other end of the brand spectrum but nonetheless, that silent running is still present and it is sooooooo nice to be back in a car that at tickover is only audiable due to the AC being on. Loving it and driving around in it to various camera shops... my old one is a bit shonky! |

hmmm... cost of living...?
Well, Lets just say I spend monthly less than I have paid in tax monthly for the last 5 years I lived in blighty. only expensive things are cars really. Real world comparison: Big Mac Meal in England about 3 quid Big Mac meal in Thailand about 1 quid and a 2nd class stamp. Petrol 40p a litre vs 90p in blighty Heres the kicker! 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom detached house with v small garden on privately guarded village ( rent-a-cops on look out 24/7) costs less than a New Ford Focus in England. And thats a brand new house! yeah, you could say I'm an economic migrant
