Very Small Tachometers

Does anyone know of a tach that has an overall diameter of 1 5/8" - 1 3/4" or less?

I'm going to put one into my cluster, where the clock is. I just took it apart and measured, and I think that is the absolute maximum size you can cram into there.

I thought these were bigger, as I saw a ton of them on eBay... but they are actually 1.5" wide. Good call.

Only 50 bucks, too. Not bad.

I don't know about you, but I like to be able to read the tach without looking at it, ie, about the same size as the speedo. After awhile, I found that I wasn't using the tach near as much, that I was hearing (quite accurately) how high the rpms were. Maybe all you need to do is rent one for awhile...;-)

I have an automatic, I don't even really want a tach. I just want something to replace the clock, because I hate looking at the time.

It'll also be nice to see if I'm above 1,100 RPM for DFCO. That's it.

<elitist>I wouldn't put a Glowshift gauge on an enemy's car. When the part you're buying is easily visible to everyone in the car, why cheap out? Spend the extra 20 or 30 bucks and get something worth looking at.</elitist>

+1. I'm a dealer for Glowshift, and I just don't care for the product very much. There are a few tachs that are thin, using stepper motors. You could just stick to the face of your gauge cluster if you can find one you like.

Will companies like Autometer make a custom tach without murdering you on the price? Maybe that is something to look into. Give them a call. My Autometer tach is a little over 2 1/2" and it was only $80, so I think you could expect to pay a little less for something custom and smaller. Never know until you try.

I think it would look better to have an appropriate sized tach mounted nice and flush to the gauge cluster - regardless of whether it is a dreaded glowshift gauge or not.

It's just a tach, and I'm going to paint it, remove the shift lights, etc. You won't know what brand it is anyways.

Hate to disappoint! lol

anything custom like that is impressive, don't matter what gadget you put in there, really

Just make sure you fully understand how the Tach works and is sealed before you take it apart. It's easy to mess with, and just as easy to eff it up

I too have an auto.
I bought the scanguageII, tach's BUILT right into the unit.
I installed the SGII under the driver's glovebox door, right in front of me. I don't really use it much though. My main interest are Intake air temp and coolant temp. After I'm done seeing them, I shut the door. I don't like to leave gadjets like that out in plain view while parked.
Also, if I ever did buy a tach, it would be one with a needle, not digi. The SGII tach has a real annoying delay.....
