Anyone have any suggestions for medication from behind the counter? (the OTC stuff never seems to work)

I'm using store brand sudafed right now....it was working for the past day and now it's not....

the whole right side of my head is blocked up/congested.

argh...I feel dumber than a bag of hammers....

honestly, just plain water..

drink 8-12 ounces every 20 mins for about 5 hours.

get back to us and tell us how you feel. works every time when i get a "cold"

anti-congestants actually dehydrate your body.. not good at all

Benedryl, diphenhydramine is the best antihistamine. It's OTC.

Theres this one thing called netipot but they make a squirt bottle nasal rinse version. Comes with a packet of powder you put inside and lukewarm water and then you squirt it through one nose and comes out the other. You will feel tons better and completely clears your sinus. Its good for people also who suffer from severe allergys. Works better than any noise spray or tablet medicine and you will have clear sinuses if you use it every day for the rest of your life.

Also there is a cough drop called cold eeze that has zinz and some other stuff thats proven to reduce the recover time from a cold.

I personally do not like sudafed the way it drys up your nose. For some reason whenever i use sudafed for several days when i have a really bad cold it always turns up into a nasal infection which is even worse.

With sinus rinse you feel immediate relief and makes getting through a bad cold a breeze. Plus its cheap and comes with liek 100 packets so youc an use it later whenver you get sick again.

[1] Put a video camcorder on a tripod in the corner of the room.
[2] Chug a whole bottle of Robitussin.
[3] Wake up and laugh.

No, seriously, don't medicate. If it isn't a huge bother, let your body fight it off. I'm convinced that is why I get sick once every 2 or 3 years.

As has been said, lots of water and lots of rest are best. Modern "medicines" are chock full of nasty stuff with nasty side effects but there are alternatives...

1) Eat right and exercise. Seriously. Nothing boosts your immune system like healthy eating and healthy activity.

2) Massage therapy. No joke. Bring your tissues because by the time the therapist is done draining your sinuses you will be drowning. What a relief!

3) There is a Whole Foods in your city. They have a homeopathic medicine section. Homeopathic medicines are natural herbal remedies. An example is Arnica Montana, a general pain reliever gained from a mountain bush in South America that the locals have been successfully using for millenia. The brand that the store carries is Boiron, and at the Boiron display you will find a flip book that you can search by your symptoms in order to find homeopathic recommendations. There are different efficacy strengths of these medicines and I recommend the "6C" variation.

Just don't do too much of it. I got a case of mouth fungus from it. Not fun. My doctor told me that the natural bacteria and fungi of the mouth are at odds with each other. Cepacol kills the bacteria but not the fungi, so they proliferate.

Moderate the exercise. Vitamins D and C. Be vigilant for bacterial pneumonia. Eat reasonable food. Too much junk food will mess up your immune response.

Never tried a massage therapist but I am aware of accupuncture, Dim Mak (which is accupuncture's evil twin brother) and other energy systems. They might work, they might not work. I do not know.

I tried visualizing virii as big mushrooms and would "kick" them to make them shatter. The symptoms grew worse but the time ill decreased. You can moderate your immune responses.

What convinced me was reading about some guy who made his AIDS related Kaposi Sarcoma lesions disappear with a pencil eraser. He would "erase them" with the eraser and they would go away. Also read about a guy who made his shattered hand heal much faster through visualizing tiny workmen laboring on it all night long. Sounds crazy but I've watched too many very ill people make themselves healthier or die by how they looked at their diseases while I was a dialysis tech. Got to be I started getting a complex, knowing who was going to die and who would live by watching their behaviors.

I heard about it, it's an Indian Vedic healing technique.

I don't like using things like that under ordinary circumstances but they might be good for disease.

Bailout's ideas are really good, but I might add that on top of drinking lots of water, try ascorbic acid. It's basically pure vitamin C, but without the added sugars, flavourants and junk. Might be hard to find at your average pharmacy, but it really works wonders. Make sure that if you do take some, dilute it very well with water, as it is an "acid" and it will do some serious damage if taken straight.
