No, some antennae have a signal amplifier built in. When I put in my Panasonic deck, I thought "well, powered antenna must mean the ones that go up" so I didn't hook up the wire from the deck. I got no AM reception and poorer FM reception.

Anyway, next time you have the deck out, try to see if you can find the wire.

i'll make sure everything is hooked up next time i take out the HU.

Even if everything is hooked up, that's not a guarentee. My parents put a new HU in their VW Golf and needed to buy a power tap for the antenna, since the HU they put in (a Blaupunkt) did not support that particular style of powered antennas.

You might try checking crutchfield.com - that's how my parents learned that they needed the dongle between the radio and antenna.

eh, not will to spend more to get better reception. i mean, it's not too bad. i need to save money for an alarm...heh.
