I got my worst two tanks of fuel this past week with hours of sitting in traffic waiting at us/canada customs every day. Still got 500km to a tank, filled the tank and it cost me $25 US for 8.5 gallons @ $2.93 a gallon Sunoco fuel.
I won't run that crap any more. I usually get about 600km in the same conditions. I get better mileage running the fuel from Mobil or Sonic. |

Try accelerate the car under 2500rpm on lights. It's hard, because most car would pass you, but it saves sh!tload of gas. Only turn on A/C on highway, and turn it off when in traffic. Sure, it's hot as hell sometimes, but it's already september, this should be easier than May or June. By doing so, I get an extra nearly 50~70 km on a tank.

New tank, filled up Monday, got 7.29 L/100 km.
Thats an improvement, but still not even the city mileage I was looking for atleast. :(

NOT that I am doubting you but it just seems impossible to consistantly get that average unless you are on a long road trip. What city/highway % do you drive. How are you calculating your average? 87 oct?

Picked this site up from gassavers.org, it is for bike routes but tells an interesting story if you put your commute in.

city/highway *may* be 50/50 or 75/25, in that range. What I meant was, that if I'm doing say 50 or 25% city driving, you'd think id AT LEAST get the stated city mpg as a bare minimum, or in fact get higher, as I do have a significant portion that is highway. Ive curtailed my fast speeds, and have tried to coast on the 400 and 404 around 110km/h, 120 TOPS... and not for long, maybe when passing only if I can.

I would ask you to define vehicle dynamics...? And quality? This Yaris's fit and finish are excellent.. but in a utilitarian fashion. It's a perfect example of form follows function.. I wanted a compact exterior with a roomy interior, that had all the amenities (P/S, P-Locks, ABS, Cruise, good sound, and air bags, that got better than 30mpg. Well, thats the Yaris.. It's not a sports car, nor is it supposed to be. It's a road-trip, commmuter car and at that it excels. When the Yaris is viewed for what it is, it's darn near perfect. -Peter

At over 4600 miles I am now getting 38mpg+ on every tank and on many 60 mile commute segments breaking 41mpg with no issue at all. Air on or off. It is also an Automatic. Doing the speed limit seems to be the biggest contributor.

Odometer 1100. Mostly highway driving.
Mileage 32.7 US mpg. I hope this gets better. I've been driving about 70mph on the highway, maybe I should slow down even more. The Canuck 5 door is pretty much the same as the xA, so I should be able to do a few mpg better. |

I've noticed that if I use the bathroom just before leaving to go to or from work, I get better mileage because I'm not speeding as much.
Think about it.
