I was averaging between 6.1 to 6.6 l/100km per tank.
I just got 5.6 l/100km from my last tank by coasting, not rushing up to red lights and just basically going easy on the car.
70% rural 30% city, lots of hills, 50km commute.
Next I'm going to inflate the tires to around 40psi and I'm considering switching to synthetic oil.

I totally agree with you on your MPG I was getting around 52.9 on average highway and 44 city. But that was a month or so. I commute to school which has lots of upward hills and hence is the reason in reduction of mpg by -6 mpg

Wow! Your numbers are great! I achieve about 40.5 mpg (imp) on average with about 65% highway and 35% city driving (half of which is hilly) in summer. A/C on about half of the time. Can't match even your city driving fuel economy.

I suggest you take a visit to GasSavers.org if you want to improve your Yaris mpg. I like the useful information on their webpage.

Just filled up my car just a while ago down the street.

425 miles @9.6 gallons = 44.27 mpg <----- would have been higher if I wasn't speeding late for school one day and the other trying to get on time for interview.

thats my 2nd best in mileage. 3rd is 423 miles. The highest is 434 miles

price $2.33/gal

That is more than 200 km!
My best record is one bar gone at about 187 km and I am very proud of that. I achieved that by filling the tank to the top. It actually spilled.
I know we all drive under different conditions (see our previous posts). However, I should say you can be very proud anyhow. Please keep posting your results on a long term basis at your convenience, and share your observations on how you have been able to achieve such frugality.

Filled up the Yaris this morning, 607 km on 31.1 litres of fuel.
Works out to 5.1 l/100km or 46mpg US for the tank

i've done 3 fillups now, i find first bar drops off between 75-80, second 125-130, third 170-180; so after the first bar its about 45-50 miles per bar drop off, i'm impressed so far! on gassavers.org i'm averaging just under 36mpg

Okay guys, heres the corresponding pics since Wed's fill up.
1st pic JUST went down to 2 bars as soon as I came home from school -- look at previous post ----

and today just about 3 minutes ago...

between 209 and 251 I would have extended the mpg more if some asshole didn't pass me illegaly over the emergency break down land. I got pissed and drove up behind him to cut him off the way he did it to me. Though I did it at a faster speed *110mph* (I only drove this way for a short period to teach him a lesson not to drive idiotic---I am a step 9 here in Mass) . Anywho, I was assuming it was a kid in a chevy aveo thinking his car is fast. I was also surprised at the pick up speed my Yaris has.

Just saw sam07Yaris' post on the last page. The useful information is highly appreciated but it looks like my car (the Canadian version) has a different fuel gauge. My gauge only has four bars above the arrow pointer on the side and four below. Eight bars in total. It makes direct comparison difficult. We may have to go back to mpg (imp or US) or the like for a useful comparion because the how many miles/km per bar type of casual comparison may have been rendered irrelevant by the difference in the number of bars.
It is a pleasure to know that somebody has achieved a good fuel economy record for a trip/tank but it is also useful if we can see fellow members' long term average numbers. Carry on sam07Yaris!
BTW, bad drivers exist. Just remain cool all the time. Safe and happy motoring!

argylesocks... from what i understood in your post when you said coasting in N is that you shift to N when coasting at high speed then shift it back to D when you start to slow down to speed up... is that right? will not this be harmful on your tranny?

i have been driving stick shifts for centuries until i shifted to auto tranny, my friend noticed me shifting to N (to conserve gas and help braking) when stopping before the car completely stops, he said this is harmful because of some pressure on the auto tranny. i don't know if this is true for your case of coasting in N then shifting back.
