my guess is cost, if it wasn't mandatory or needed in certain area's y bother..... yes they save maybe 40-60 bucks if not more per car, u say nothing....they sell 20,000 and save that much on each....they are laughing ($80,000-$120,000)

jsut to let u all know, nothing i jsut said is based on facts.... 100%guess. i dont even know how much the relay costs...

jsut a side thought. i told my friend about the running light issue, he said on all cars (he drives an integera so he dont know shit!!) the day time running lights have a seperate fuse..... pull that out and ure good to go...... right?
ive know that you can just pull the fuse in the matrix, im sure you could find the fuse for it in the yaris...

i find stupid people w/ drl's are dangerous. i pulled up to a lady last night at 6pm (was dark already up here) and told her her headlights weren't on (no tail lights). she was pretty embarassed to find out she'd been driving around on just the drl's.

imo, they should make daytime running lights turn signal bulbs in most cars (like chevy often does it). then when it gets dark, you ideally notice that you can no longer see! dodge/chrysler noticed too that in a lot of cases, you can't see the turn signal going because of the drls, so now a lot of them will shut of the low beam drl of whatever side is blink w/ the turn indicator...

imo, you just need to know WHEN to turn on your headlights. (ie 1h before dusk and 1h after dawn, in rainy conditions (there is a sign in northern maine, iirc, that indicates that if your wipers are on, so too should your lights be), snow, heavy/hazy overcast, fog) but people just dont know/dont care, i guess

I have DLRs and I've gotten into the habit of almost always turning my lights on, is that a bad habit? Maybe when the summer comes I'll do it less, but yes I've caught myself having forgotten to turn my lights on at dark and I feel having smoked tail lights makes that even worse. But if I didn't have DLRs I would probably not turn them on all the time because I would remember I need them without dlr's tricking me!

not necessarily for thebarber, but more for everybody... You might want to leave your DRL module plugged, and cut the biggest blue wire from the harness.

What i did was open up the module and cut the lead to the wire.

A bit of mod is needed for having the fogs as DRL.

so hold up........if i leave the module in and jsut cut the big blue wire the outside DRL will be disabled? that is much easier then grounding the beige wire..... is this forsure to work on the 2010?

That's correct - You can either leave the module in and cut the blue wire (capping off both sides) or you can pull the module and jump the orange (beige on 09+) wire to the white wire with the black stripe. Both methods make the DRLs stay off and allow the OEM fogs to work.

Why would anybody NOT want DRL's?? Anything that makes your car more visable is going to reduce your chance of an accident. I think they're great.

okay, well i attempted to remove the fuse for the DRL, toyota did a good job making this difficult..... that fuse also poweres ABS, windows, door locks, alarm and a few other randomness.... Y IN HELL DOES THE REAR WIPER HAVE ITS OWN FUSE BUT THE DRL DOESN'T..... lol. so in the morning after school before work gonna cut the wire...... if this is wrong and have to reattatch it i gonna be mad, lol. thats way too much work for this and also in a very very tight spot....

thanks again for the info

There is definitely not a fuse that you can remove to disable it. The DRL module receives its logic power from the ECU-IG fuse, which powers many other system-critical parts.

it is made to be somewhat hard to disable

just like VSC off...in the US this is soon going to be mandatory for all vehicles
so they don't want to make it 'ez' to override

Hi there, I totally agree with you.
Then, why don't go further, and get your brakes off, disable airbags, abs and whatever makes the car safe ?????? Sorry I don't get it.
Also for those who forget to turn their lights on, mhmmmmm when it's dark and I don't see my speedometer, that tells me that maybe something shoud be turn on Dohhhhhhhhhhh !!!!

I've been driving here, in Canada, now for 7 years, was in France, before, and I find a lot safer to have DRLs, because you're more visible to others, but that's my own opinion. Litghts on a car are not there because it makes it pretty and look like a christmas tree

Drive safe

Ciao

the problem is, lots of cars nowdays, including the yaris, have lit speedometers that you can't see unless the car is ON. so when the car is on and the drl's are gone, i can definitely see how some people could think their lights ARE on, but they actually only have dim headlights/DRL's and do not have any tail lights.

drl's DO make you more visible, i agree, but when the conditions require, i turn on my headlights.

I am not one of the dumb one's and know when to turn my headlights on (ie: when it gets dark), so I like DRL. The only thing I dislike is I have to clean the headlamps almost every day as the salt really reduced the range of the lights.

One thing I have noticed over the past couple of weeks is people driving around with their BREAK lights ON all the time. WTF is that all about? Seems like a ton of people around here are driving around looking like they are pressing both brake and gas pedals. lol

the DRLs are definatly an added safety system and yes they are great. i personally think they should illuminate the rear also and to conteract this i always have my lights on anyways....but when i feel like creaping into my driveway after bed time or jsut feel like having car on and running but no lights, i like to be able to do so. i have personally yet to find myself only driving on DRL at night but i can see how it would/could happen.

my car is blazing blue and if u can't see it (in conditions where night nights (lowbeems) would not be required) you should not be on the road......

everyone has their own reasons to keep them or remove them.... its up to the user to decide.

Some people forget to turn their rear lights on at night w/ them, which makes them more dangerous than not having them. This can also get one pulled over by the cops.

btw, i did it, instead of cutting the blue wire i opened up the thing and cut the connector for the blue wire inside and bent it away.... half inch gap enough?
