There is no such rule in the Solo rule book.

The only relevant SCCA Solo II rule about tint as far as I know is that it falls under the "comfort and convenience" rule. It is not prohibited. If it's so dark that you can't see the course, that will present it's own set of problems that you'll have to deal with, such as hitting cones or going off-course.

As for the back window, follow the first rule of Italian driving.

Not exactly. There is this rule (unless it was changed for 2010). Since many cars have auto-locks which engage at a low speed, that would require windows OPEN on such cars.

3.5.3 INTERIOR ACCESS: The interior of a closed car must be easily accessible from

You can manually unlock auto lock doors. But it was a nice try. Keep looking, you will find no passage in the SCCA rule book that requires the window be down.

Additionally, to avoid confusion for people who do not run within your Region (Cal Club) you should refer to the National Solo rules and not your Regions supplement regs when trying to help someone out. Telling someone from NY, FLA, TX, etc what the Cal Club rules are only further confuses the issue. The natl rules are the basis for every Region within the Club.

Likewise, you shouldn't assume that everyone autocrosses with the SCCA or under SCCA rules.

So that rule doesn't exist in the national version? My apologies if not, I didn't know I was quoting from regional. Zachary, definitely check the rules for the autocross you intend to race in. Loren is right, SCCA is just one organization of many.

However, regarding the rule I did quote, if the doors automatically lock, you know you're not going to unlock them while driving, so in the event of an emergency, they would be locked UNTIL you unlocked them. I believe that violates the rule I quoted.

And, this whole thing is off topic with regards to tinting. My apologies to the OP, but I still think it's interesting.

No, it does not exist in the Natl rules. And even as a Regional Sup Reg it does not say it is required - having the door unlocked meets the rule, end of debate imo.

In many cars hitting unlock after starting the cars overrides the auto lock system. In some cars, like Fords, it can be completely disabled.

I really doubt that at the 2009 Solo natls the 50+ car SS class would have enjoyed its rain soaked run group with windows down.

Here is a fun one:

6.3 VEHICLE/DRIVER SAFETY

E. The driver’s window may not be down more than 1” during course runs unless the vehicle is equipped with a window net and/or the driver is using arm
restraints. The same restriction applies to the passenger window if there is a
passenger.

Typically found in open wheel cars, where there is no window to install a window net. They attach your arms to your harness. You still can move your arms within the "normal" range of motion, they just prevent them from exiting the car in a roll.

You can also have a driving suit made with them built in.
