Wish list of possible wheels
As I concider wheel choices for my new Yaris, I keep coming back to Drag brand wheels. They are also one of my first choices for my Celica project car. For the Yaris it looks like the Drag DR-21 is leading the way as my asbolute favorite and it just seem a perfect fit for my Blazin' Blue 3-door!! What do you guys think of this wheel?

I think it really depends on what look you're going for, as well as what tire size you want. There are some rims available in 16" and up that aren't available in 15, so that can limit your choices if you're planning on keeping stock tires. It's pretty much a balancing act between performance and looks: super short sidewalls and 18" rims look neat, but would be terrible for acceleration; same goes for tires wider than 205 mm or about a 7" wide wheel.
Then there's the attributes triangle: ![]() For reference, I'm going with gray/orange Konig Forwards (15x6.5, ET38, 11.4 lbs) wrapped in Dunlop Direza DZ101's (205/50R15). I lost a bit of acceleration by adding almost an inch of tread width, so I'm trying to make up the difference with lighter-than-stock wheels. I know that they're not as strong as RPF-1's or gravel rally wheels, but it's in my price range. I'm a bit hesitant about the 7-spoke design though as lots of cars in the area have 7-spoke MB wheels. Most of the cars are in poor shape, and I don't want to be in the "rims are worth more than the car" boat. *edit* I second going through 33OH for wheels: he has quoted an outstanding deal on these rims--shipped--that beats anything I've seen online. That, and he's a "local" small business, and it's important to support them. |

Well to start with I've only had the car for a week and I definately want to stay with 15" wheels. Mostly cause my Celica also has 15s and I can swap tires back and forth if need be. For now I will be running with the original steel wheels and covers, with thoughts of adding alloy wheel as suspension and handling mods take place. Oh and I also like the Konig Rewind wheels, as I'm kind of an old school tuner anyway in more ways than one!!
http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...0325&rc=NWFINT I will definately buy from 330H, in fact I'm already talking to him about some replacement wheel covers. racerb

By the way, here is my Celica project Performance Touring car that I'm building and really the reason to stay with 15" rims. The only other possible wheel size I've concider and only if I decide to Auto-X the Yaris, would be a 13"x7" with a good Hankook or simular STF legal tire.

Love the Drag DR-21 - it's definitely my favorite wheel Drag produces, and it's only 1-pound heavier than the original RPF-1 (which are at least double the cost!)
Great choice. Konig Rewinds look great as well, the Yaris is well-suited for classic wheel styles. And yes - I can usually beat Discount Tire Direct's pricing, or at least match it! |

For that old school look, I like the Drag DR20 and the Konig Rewinds.

I'm also old school and really like the old time 1960's Panasport look. These arrived today.
![]() They're just 15x7's so I don't need to go crazy with odd tire sizes. Going with 195/60 tires puts the wheel diameter at only 1% different from the stock 15x5 steel wheels with the stock 185/65 tires so the odometer and speedometer stay true. Last edited by tooter; 05-03-2012 at 11:01 PM. |

Really like those wheels, but in order to closely match what I'm trying to get looks wise, I'm having trouble deciding. The Celica project is whats really kicking my butt, the AAR Dan Gurney cars had custom made wheels. While they look like steel, they are actually aluminum, with a real Nascar look to them. Here is what I'm trying to mimic, but may need to just go with what works.
![]() This wheel is looking more like the one I'll end up using just for simplicity and lack of useable/affordable choices. In fact the AAR cars ran 16"x9"s front and 16"x10" rear wheels, just not going to happen for me! http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=7&vid=006919 racerb

Those are cool.
Deep dish slotted mags like that used to be the thing to run in the 70's... ![]() As far as I know... no one makes them anymore. Maybe they'll come back in style again. I was totally suprized I could still get Panasport replicas. They're a 50 year old design. |

Yeah those are cool wheels, but I have to correct myself on their size, they are actually 16"x12fr and 16"x12.5rr in other words huge. Also the reason they would be way too expensive, they are manufactured by Momo, so like gold!!

Or BassettWheels.com Though DiamondRacing and Bassett are steel wheels - a bit heavier.
@racerb - your car just brought back memories of mine. Thanks!

I really like the All-Trac (GT-Four), but my car is just the GT-S model and my plan is to build a GT chassis car with all GT-S running gear. I've been using the '87 Celica coupe as my test bed for the build, with a '86 chassis sitting by waiting to be the final racecar!
