Quick question about setup

So all I have right now is a and one pair of hertz esk-165s. I have a 2007 liftback, now do I actually need a harness and dashkit or is that just something to make it look pretty? I plan on getting an amp and sub later and not having any rear speakers.

Think you left out some info. Are you adding a headunit as well ?

If so you need a wire harness and a dash kit.

SqComp can probably give you more info on them Hertz.

Yes, forgot to CP it in, dumb me.
It's a AVH-P1400DVD double din.
Why do you need the harness?

Okay a bit of research will need to be done for the dash kit for a double din Unit.

One end of the harness connects to your factory connector and the other end with the wires is color coded to connect to you aftermarket radio harness.

Here's a pic of the back of that unit and the wire harness that connects to the harness listed above

Got it, for tweeter placement, do you think on that front dash top of the window , bottom of the window or on the pillar would be best?

Okay, got it, thought the connectors in the back were just the exact same cables.

SqComp can probably better guide you for placement. What I would recommend is an amp for that component set. I don't think they'll reach there full potential off the headunits power.

So you've got the 6" Energy component set?

The tweeters will help stage height if they're up in the pillars. As far as aiming, look for a spot as close to the glass and more on axis since they're a smaller 20mm format and you're probably using the crossover that comes with the set.
