Is it just me?
When I'm driving, and let go off the gas for instance, it feels like my Yaris is dragging. Like somebody is pressing on the brakes. The past week or so I've been really feeling it. My tranny fluid level is good, brakes aren't dragging. I've never realized this until now. Maybe it's just me though! I drive A LOT of different vehicles daily etc... that aren't Toyota's. My echo didn't do this at all (but I only had it for a month). I still got power train warranty on it as well and it's an Automatic Transmission.
Is it just the vehicle doing Engine braking? Also have anybody have transmission problems with their Automatic Yaris's? Sorry if this is in the wrong section. Just very interested to know. Thanks! |

Could it be that you've been driving your car in "3" instead of "D"? 3 and D are in the same area so you may have possibly moved your gear lever toward the left in "3" instead of on the right side where "D" is. Silly as it may sound, it has happened to people before.

Nope can't say it's that! I'm in D (Drive) 99 percent of the time. Anybody else have this problem?

@oliveskate i know what your talking about and im pretty sure it just has to do with your gas pedal habits. if you push it down half way and dont let it upshift it drags a little, but if you feel and hear when it upshifts you can take your foot off the gas (as if you had a clutch), then reengage the pedal and it shifts quicker. it also seems easier with an intake (i have an afe) to hear when it shifts, at least thats my view of what your talking about, then again i could just be driving my car in a stupid way putting more strain on the engine haha oh well ive had no problems yet

If you're new to the car, it may be the DFCO slowing the engine. (Deceleration Fuel Cut-off)

Mine does this. It's the first automatic for me in over twenty years, so it doesn't seem strange to me. I really like how smooth it shifts for such a small car.

I have a manual and I notice it too, but more often in the winter. It's the DFCO.

Mine is just the opposit. Im used to the harsh decel that a manual transmission has. When I let off on the gas with my auto it seems to just keep going with no transmission decel whatsoever. Then I have to mash on the brakes for all it is worth to negotiate a corner or come to a stop.
I do not like it at all!

I agree, it's the DFCO kicking in...

DFCO
mine is a manual and at first I was surprised how quickly the car slowed down while "engine braking". now I'm used to it. |
