Lowering Help
I've been trying to prioritize what I want to do to my 2007 Sedan, after viewing the forums and reading up (the best I can, don't know a whole lot about cars and such) I have decided that the first and most essential thing is to lower it. I was looking at what other people have done and I've noticed that it's either then tenabe DF210 with (maybe) TRD suspension kit and a strut bar. Here is my question(s)
I live in PA, the roads are ok, but the snow and ice during the winter can really be a pain in the arse, so I don't think I want to lower it like some of the people who live in say Florida and such. The guy I work with suggested Low profile tires instead of changing the springs. I remember reading that TRD Suspension will lower the car by about 1" he said with low profile tires will lower the car about another inch. I have yet to do a comparison price wise, but I'm sure low profile tires may be more expensive then just getting the springs. I think I will be able to lower about 2 inches total and be safe, still need to just double check measurements and stuff. I also was wondering if getting a new strut bar is essential to the changing of suspension and such. I don't plan on racing this yaris by any means, but damnit, I want it to look sweet. Any help guys and girls, would be greatly appreciated -Atticus |

Wrong! you have to keep the overall diam of your tire. Meaning that low profile tires are for bigger rims. If you just want a little drop to close that fender gap, you should go for the Tanabes NF's not the DF's or the TRD springs (more $$$) . Those are just 1" drop. Regarding the strut bar... it depends on the way you drive and the roads you have there... You won't feel a difference driving on straight line or on your daily commute. |

I guess the other thing, is, again, be easy on me i don't know squat. If i get new springs, they will just replace the springs I currently have, however, If i get TRD suspension Kit, it replaces EVERYTHING. Now, feel free to tell me what you would get if you were wearing my size 12 Adios. (If you could site specific examples that would be awesome.
And Castrex thanks, you helped shoot down on of my options. |

The TRD "kit" is just springs + shocks... is not everything!
If you go for this option you will get a harsher ride, better handling though. If you go for the tanabe springs you will have a close to stock ride quality... plus you get to close the fender gap. If you are just looking to improve the looks, i think this is the way to... also the most economical. Tanabes NF - small drop Tanabes DF - big drop About the strut... you could use that money in something else.. Take a look at my car on DF's with 205/50/15 tires Last edited by CASTREX; 03-28-2007 at 12:22 PM. |

Then why do you have a tire that is so much smaller than the stock diameter? 205/55R15 would have been almost dead on

The diff is close to 3% (not remember exactly)... according to a tire size calculator.
Not sure if has anything to do with this tires (Hankooks RS-2) but when you put them side to side with the OEM alloys on the OEM Potenzas you CAN'T notice a difference in height. It might be there but I can tell you is minimal. atticusrex, on the first post mention a 1" drop by reducing tire profile... that's something else. |
