fill this thread with all the questions and information you want as long as it isn't a complete distraction from a car based forum.

They are simply knock -offs. Materials are low quality, balancing methods are primitive, no R&D. One who supports knock -off performance parts, is one who is making the aftermarket performance industry go south.

^ Exactly. You could line up ten of those turbos, and no two would be built with the same tolerances.

If you like to roll the dice with your motor, go for it. I've never been comfortable doing it that way, but to each his own.

OP, if you go the ebay route, could you document the parts you use?

Not to sound like a dick, but really you have a lot of knowledge here now about boosted applications on this car/engine on this forum and also MI. The quick and dirty is that you will NOT be successful in spending only 1k on a turbo set up. Period. Folks that have tried to go as low cost as possible have had failures on critical parts be it in a few months, less that a year, in between 1-2 years, etc.

Nobody out there would begrudge someone for wanting to go boosted on a budget, but this isn't going boosted on a budget. It is merely a formula for disaster somewhere down the road and depending on the disaster it could even be life threatening. When you go turbo especially you are taking a calculated risk, but that is the key word...calculated. How much do you want to put into the risk category is up to you.

I can attest to what happens even with big name parts if they go bad as well as some other folks, but you are talking about leaving your engine and your life into the hands of folks that only has a single goal: putting cash in their pocket and taking it from yours. End of story.

This isn't like buying the store brand macaroni and cheese as opposed to Kraft or Velveda. Just saying.

is there still a problem with the piping that would come in one of those kit, or the inter-cooler for that mater. I think we got the idea that the Turbo stand an 80% chance of being low quality and causing more problems than making power.

Then just do it the right way and pick up a Zage or pick up a used Zage, Management, Harness combo from someone and call it a day like we have been trying to tell you. We are trying to save you cash and pain.

yea, i know, but the excitement of possibly getting one sooner is what makes me want to go the alternative route. I guess i will just have to save up more and have it take longer to finally get there.

I am running a custom kit with a EBay turbo. It is a massive undertaking and I was a dealership ASE certified mechanic for over 10 years. The zage kit was not available when I went turbo so I built my own. My advise. Get the zage kit, a AEM FIC and a boomslang harness to hook it up.

that was my idea, but i want low comp pistons with I beam connnecting rods, and to run some where close to 20 pounds of boost, so custom is what i figure i will have to do, i want somewhere around 300whp on 93 octane. this is all starting to seem very expensive to do i'm starting to think i wil have to put around 6k into the engine to get it all done. doing custom doesn't scare me, i've been working on cars since i was about 8 and i'm a few semesters away from having my degree in automotive technology. i'm just trying to decide if i should invest in this car or get something that wont be such a head ache to work on.

^ more than $6k if you want it done right. If you want to do it stop thinking numbers and start buying parts needed.

well i have to think numbers, my wife would be quit un-pleased with me if i just started buying parts. granted i have so much a month that i can spend how ever I wont once the bills are paid but i also have to have a daily driver and i don't want to have to ask my mother-in-law to borrow a car because i have mine tore apart to do work on it.
some i'm sitting between many decisions.
1) start building my custom turbo kit for my car
2) doing option 1 in a manner as not to displease my wife
3) get something like an old Civic or Mustang to play with and let the Yaris stay as daily driver.
4) same as 2 but for number 3

Money your gonna spend to build a beater is way more then to boost a yaris.

if you want to keep your yaris as a boosted DD then i definatly recommend going with a zage or even the blitz SC. you can go the ebay way but you wont have a reliable DD and will be more work then fun.

to save money you can get a zage and run around 5psi and you dont have to have management

and FYI your wife will always be un-pleased if your buying stuff not for her....

you are going to have 3-4k alone in the top end to get you usable 300hp. You will hit the 6250rpm ceiling faster than you can blink believe me. I hit it quick as hell even at 8-10psi. The extra 800-1000rpm will make a decent difference. Your bottom end can run you easily 2k and now you are at your 6k mark without even boosting the engine.
