Total repaint cost?

Has anyone on here gotten a total repaint out of pocket in the same color, and if so how much did you pay? I am just looking at the peeling clearcoat on mine and the lip kit that I want to put on and thought that at this point a total repaint makes more sense so everything matches....

There is a huge range depending on what company, brand, prep-work, finishing, and misc other work you need done.

Also your area makes a difference. Best thing to do is drive to different body shops and get bids. Bids are free and much more reliable than what he-said or she-said.

When I paint a car myself I use all 3m products and nason paint. I spend several days prepping then Primer then base then clear. Then wet-sand and 3-stage buff it after painting. I generally expect to pay about $500-$600 for paint and materials. That's assuming I don't need a new spray gun.

Sorry I couldn't be much help but call around and visit for some estimates. And not all paint jobs are the same.

Just go get some quotes from body shops. Almost all of them offer free estimates.

My friend local paint shop offers a deal $800 to repaint small cars about civic size. Any color, but does not include door jams. He uses it as a way to get people in the door. He says every customer that wants that usually ends up spending more because they want other stuff painted or other parts fixed like dents and scratches.

Good paint job is about 3 grand or more you get what you pay for most of the cost is in the prep work complete color change requires removal of windows and seals and sanding of you want a paint job under a grand a place like maaco will just tape off everything and paint over your car with little to no prep resulting in orange peel and paint that will peel like a orange a few years later

3k is about what I was thinking for a DECENT paint job. However it varies greatly by area and what you want done.

Go get some quotes. Around here, $3k would be average for a good "factory quality" paint job. But if you're just respraying the same color -- they might just mask all the window gaskets and such and could easily be less.

Well, i'm planning on sanding everything myself(done this before on 2 different firebirds i've owned) and removing emblems, spoiler etc... so hopefully it will be under 2 grand. Wish I could get it sprayed in Imron that stuff wears like iron and no damned clearcoat.....

Well epic fail on the first shop, would not allow me to sand it down and his minimum paint job starts at $3000 or $800 to paint just the lip kit. What a fucking ripoff. Try a few more places but I have a feeling everyone wants to make their retirement money off each job anymore.

^ Snarky. I totally understand not wanting to take a chance on the customer prepping the car. You have to respect that point of view -- so it's a high quote -- you'll get others.

I know why the shop said that, but by the same token I know I can do the work correctly because I have done it several times in the past and yes I understand that this guy does not know me. I guess i'm just pissed at several things, toyota's shitty paint job, the sue happy nature of america which makes it impossible for guys like myself who don't sue for every little thing to catch a break because everyone else has made trust impossible anymore and the fact that I just don't have the money to throw at these guys to just be done with it. I have this impending feeling that I will end up going to get a portable garage, a HVLP turbine sprayer and shoot the thing myself . ok, resume meditational breathing, in out in out....
