2013 Yaris Really bad MPG???
Hello everyone, I am new to the site and new to the Yaris family(I came from the tundra family) so thanks in advance for the help! Anyways I just recently bought a 2013 Yaris LE 4speed auto from my uncle. It has 64 000km and we are in Canada if that's relevant.
Anyways when I bought the car I notice the avg l/100km was at 9.5(roughly 25-26 mpg I believe). They did so mostly city driving though. When I filled the tank I also notice it saying only 390km to empty... has anyone else experienced this?? It seems terribly low to me. From the short browsing I've done on on some forums it seems as the the common low mpg is 30-32mpg. Does my mpg seem normal? I do 90% city and I drive quite slow(since I got used to trying to save money on gas in my big truck). Anyone have any recommendations ? |

That sounds a bit low. I have over-sized wheels and do zero granny driving and I never get less than 30, usually between 30-33 mpg. People regularly report high 30's. Are you using cheaper gas? I noticed a drop in mpg when going from Chevron to Costco for a couple tanks.

Your AC compressor is probably kicking on from defrosting your windows (front and/or rear). Also, check the condition of the air filter, tire inflation, wheel alignment (only the front is adjustable), and you may want to properly clean the MAF sensor.

The average consumption is computed over a long period. I don't know how long, but once it settles, it takes a long time to change again.
You could consider resetting the figure and starting fresh. Hold the button down for a few seconds while the average is displayed, and it will reset and start all over.

Sorry no. You get the average speed for your current trip since the engine was last started.

Being a creature of habit/routine in my older age, I drive 240-250 miles per week and buy 6 gallons of regular Shell unleaded every week. That's better MPG than I was expecting when I purchased my Yaris, and that is all suburb/city commute/errand type driving.
