about if it is needed or not...YES. My 4runner has them and I use them daily from october to april and yes they will melt ice, and take dew off the glass in 1 minute. it is not laziness it is a fact of living in a 4 season climate the mirrors will get dew coated every morning.

Interested in seeing what is involved and what it would cost to retrofit my Yaris with heated mirrors.
