I think it is just a function of a person's personality. I never let my Yaris go under 2 bars. I'm way too scared of damaging the fuel pump (if I were ever to run out of gas), even though I don't even know if that is possible on a Yaris. I just know that letting your fuel tank go dry is not good for your car and that is enough for me.
