If the Stereo doesn't have a low level SUB output then only run the SPEAKER level output from the stereo to the sub and THEN to the speakers.

Don't run the low level from the TV to the SUB or you'll have full blast on the sub as soon as everything turns on. The volume level won't be controllable on the sub that way.
