Well, I did it, and the results are disappointing.
I bit the bullet and drove 60 MPH on the parkways during my commute, allowing a few coal trucks to pass me in the process. I did this for the whole tank of gas, and when I filled up this AM, the mileage calculated to be 40.12 MPG. I thought by driving that slowly that I might see 44 or 45 MPG. At least there was no damage from the coal trucks passing me... well, none that I know of. I will be glad to go back to the two lane roads and my 38 MPG when the levee is repaired and the road is reopened. My commute will be 3.4 miles shorter each way when I go back to the old route. Tom |
