Ok, I've seen this JVC unit:

I can get it for alot less than what Crutchfield is asking for:

Looks very nice and has received mostly positive reviews. I've been reading some stuff about it and I keep seeing something about having to connect it to the hand brake?

Not sure what they mean there.

I've also seen some mentions of mounting the "connect tuner" in some place accessible.

I guess if something needs to be mounted somewhere that's accessible, I could mount this thing in the Metra dash mount that has the open space under where the dash unit is placed:

Also, since this doesn't have an aux plug on the face / front of the unit, I could route the input on the rear into that same open space in the Metra dash mount.
