Toyota isn't completely innocent when it comes to the mistakes that have been made. I think that their biggest issues stem from the plants in the US. I am very proud to be an American and proud to have served, but the bottom line is that we as an automotive country have been going down the shitter for decades hence the reason for the imports to rise as predominantly as they have for quality. I bought the Yaris because it was made in Japan. If it was made in North America than I would have bought something else. Every North American car that I or my parents have owned that was built after the mid 60's for the most part has had too many issues to count. Hell, my dad's 07 GMC HD2500 only had 60k on it by last fall and had over five grand in warranty work done. Not impressive at all.


As for the Elantra, after seeing a few real world pics, it really does look to me like a smaller version of the Sonata. Not saying that is a bad thing. Hyundai has been coming a long way from the garbage that they toted around for a couple decades. As for the 148hp I will have 50 more than that with my turbo for roughly the same price point (19k). I will still be getting real world HWY mileage of 36-38 and 29-31 city as long as I don't stomp on it. I still go with the old adage that you can spend less and get more in certain areas if you are wise about it.
