I haven't really taken the time to look at it closely but I'm assuming that since it's a drive-by-wire system that the bottom of the pedal is sort of "hinged" and when you push on it you're pushing to top of the pedal down...instead of the whole pedal forward (if you catch my drift)

I'm guessing that I didn't notice it at all since I came from a BMW 325i which had a drive-by-wire system with the hinged bottom on the pedal.

the attached picture shows some 3-series pedals. see what I mean? the bottom of the pedal is attached to the floor.
