You could say weight would make the difference. The reason "alloy" wheels were invented was to save weight. But they can weigh more than stock wheels -- in either case, you may be sacrificing MPG when acceleratingly, but when the car is up to speed the added weight will tend to stabilize the car at said running speed -- further saving gas.

That all said, I got 15" wheels with the normal amount of rubber for no other reason than to lessen the chance of curbing the wheel. There are many reasons to choose wheels. "off the line" is one -- one I don't care much for -- but if you wanted to get the best MPG from your wheels and tires -- get the biggest thing that will fit under the strut.

Guys, don't take this as hating on big wheels.

But really, that post is so erroneous it hurts to read.

Larger tire rolling diameter *increases* mpg? ok, see I thought rolling a heavier, bigger tire that's farther from the axis of the wheel would take more power, not less.

"Get the biggest thing that will fit under the strut? You've got to be kidding me right? So 21's with truck sized tires are good for performance and mileage? news to me.

You might try *thinking* in a common sense way before posting. Lighter, smaller tired, wheels will ALWAYS outperform a larger, heavy wheel, with big tires. Ever hear something called friction? You know, how it takes more power to turn a wider wheel? Ok good.
