DIY - rear sway bar [pics]

The rear axle is solid in a U shape and adding a bar between them just doesnt make sence to me, I am going to try one and not going to argue wether it imporves handling or not. I am just skeptical.

The brackets that mount the bottom of the shocks to the rear axle are pretty flimsy in comparison to the axle itself. I believe that what the rear sway bar really does is to stiffen up those mounting points.
