I think the TRD ones are indeed helical, but helical ones still use clutch plates for driving the axles. This is how the bad translation on the TRD site described the LSD and if you look at the cutaway image from the TRD site you see the helical gears as well as the clutch plates.

"Because the limited slip capacity is provided using a number of clutch plates, it exhibits a direct, reliable LSD effect."
