Ok - I replaced this sensor. It doesn't require removal of the alternator, it is actually quite easy.
The steps are: 1. Remove the black cover (the one with the VVTI Logo) at the top of the engine*(4 bolts) 2. Remove the metal bracket that holds the alternator to the top of the engine 2a. Maybe remove the connection plug for the injector if you need extra room and move the harness out of the way 3. Undo the bolt that holds the sensor in place (10mm) then take out the sensor. As I was removing the sensor, I actually snapped off the black piece. Then when I grabbed onto the body and pulled it, the body came out but the actual sensor itself got stuck INSIDE the engine. I googled it and apparently THIS is also a common fault so please take care when removing yours. I was able to remove mine by gently pulling it with vicegrips / pliers but you may not be as fortunate. One guy I found that had this problem had to remove his bumper and thread a bolt in there to remove it. Take care when removing this thing. |
