Actualy you almost always get more volume from the subs facing the hatch. Not every single case (I can think of one or two examples) but but damn close. That being said...my latest enclosure for my Suzuki faces up as well EDIT: I should qualify that statement. If your just listening to music and not competing in the db lanes arguably you can mount them any way you'd like to. Facing them to the back tends to give you more volume because the hatch reinforces the sound (much in the same way home speakers tend to sound louder and/or better in the corners of the room). It also helps cancel out 2nd and 3rd order harmonics making the soub sound a bit cleaner.
