There must be at least 15 ( or more ) of those scattered about the undercarriage of the car in many shapes ( round , oval ) and sizes . They do become soft from heat and shrink from the cold which can make them loose . So , may want to give a checkup every 6 months or so . Can lead to water , mud , or critters to enter car .
so they DO go in those holes?

don't get me started on HOLES . Anyway , may want to check the plugs where your spare tire is located ( need to remove ) . I found the larger plug to be loose and as a precaution put clear shipping tape over those plugs to keep more secure , plus the clear tape will help to see if plug is loose . If you do so , clean the painted metal surface around the plug(s) so tape sticks better .
