I think I have figured out the Yaris / Fit MPG Pros and Cons for AUTOMATICS ONLY, since that's what I own.

The Yaris seems to get better city MPGs when NOT hypermiling. Normal driving by normal people. (ie - Folks who would never want or use a ScanGuage, like my wife)

The Fit shines in MPGs on the Highway when NOT hypermiling.

The Fit has 5 gears with what seems to be overdrive as well since my RPMs will drop when cruising eventhough i'm already in 5th gear.

My Yaris, with cruise control wont get much above 40MPG at 65MPH.
The Fit just loves 65MPH and gets close to 50MPG at 60 MPH with cruise control.

If you do mostly highway travel, the Fit may be your buddy, by about 10MPG. If you are city mostly, the Yaris is the car for you.

Out of over 60 full tanks on our AT Yaris Sedan I've only had 3 tanks (39.8, 39.2 and 37.6) less than 40 US MPG and all of those tanks were driving 75 mph + on highway trips. I also have some over 40 MPG tanks driving those speeds.

My worst tank by far was driving 75 mph minimum and upwards to 80 mph on an entire tank in the rain and wind.

If I drove a steady 65 mph on my commute I would consistently get over 40 and closer to or over 44 MPG, If I drove 65 mph on a highway trip (so there would be no city driving) I would get closer to 47 MPG. If I drove a steady 60 mph in our Yaris sedan I would also get close to 50 MPG, maybe 47-49 MPG.

In my experience, our Yaris isn't capable of breaking 50 MPG on an entire tank without engaging in slower than 60 mph though(I drive 50 -55 to get those numbers), so if you're getting 50 mpg and going 60 mph, that is better than the Yaris. I haven't seen anyone else report numbers like that yet. This is great news for you and hopefully for all the new Fit owners. I just don't understand why I'm not seeing any other Fit owners on cleanmpg reporting numbers like this.
