I don't know yet. I am toying with the idea of going nuke in the Navy, but I have read some horror stories about the difficulty of the program. It is basically a 36 month, postgraduate-level crash course in operating a nuclear reactor. Now that I tested, I am going to have to take a closer look at some of the other careers in the Navy/Air Force.

A lot of those guys get great jobs in the power industry after service, I've also heard it's quite tough but you'd have some great opportunities once out as well.

Husband was a Navy nuke on submarines. That's how we got to spend 3 1/2 years in Hawaii.

Youngest daughter is seeing a guy studying to be a Navy nuke. I think he's going the carrier route though.

Does take a long time, is hard as there is lots of schooling, got paid more money for it though and gives you some usable skills when you get out.
