if its the aluminum stuff you are probably looking at around .3lbs per sq ft, if its the non-aluminum stuff, probably even less. I can't imagine taking that stuff off, but to each their own.


Is the stock engine cover really needed? does it serve any purpose other than to look nice?

Nope, I'm talking about the tar stuff that is under the carpet. It does add up. Look under the front carpet in the Yaris to see if Toyota used it. The other poster says they only put it in the seams. You use either a heat gun to soften it for scrapping it out with a plastic scraper or you use dry ice to freeze it and then it is brittle enough to chop out. My Civic had quite a bit of it, all throughout the car, especially in the trunk. Don't think Yaris has any in the back, but might in the front. I just haven't had time to check yet.
