Well... if you're looking at 9lb wheels vs. 23lb wheels, then the answer is definitely yes. However, with most inexpensive aftermarket wheel applications, the answer is realistically... no "significant" difference... and far too many make far too much about the wheel weight issue.

The tires I want are Yokohama AVID H4S 205/40R17 at 22lbs, the Borbets weight 21.5. The stock alloy rims with tires weight 34 lbs, so my weight increase is 28%. My choices right now are to go with a 6 spoke wheel (the KR595 is 5 pounds lighter), go for the Borbet, go down to a 16" rim, or wait for the new spring lineups to come out. |
