the SEVERE GEAR is GL-5 and not safe for synchros , could make for difficult shifting and damage internal parts . The MTG is fine , states that here under PRODUCT DESCIPTION www.amsoil.com/storefront/mtg.aspx . Mentions TOYOTA as well .

I think Toyota says GL-4 and GL-5 are both okay for their transaxle, but it just makes sense to use the GL-4 that's designed for transaxles/transmissions with their soft metals and leave the GL-5 for the differentials. I know that the expensive LubroMoly GL-5 75W-90 (made in Germany) didn't do much to improve my shifts.
