What exactly is a hood insulator supposed to do and how does that function justify the price? Just curious. I live in interior AK and engine warmth is a big deal for short trips around town.

2 purposes....

1. hold ambient heat from engine in from escaping through thin sheet metal of hood

2. partial sound deadening.....yeah.....

Keeps inside cabin noise down, protects paint from direct heat of engine, "insulates" like the pink stuff, and may help contain engine fire.
Oh, and did I mention it just LOOKS GOOD too?
My old twin cam Saturn had an insulator, my single cam Saturn did not. That used to bug the heck out of me!

All the same reasons I came up with when I changed mine. Main reason I got mine was to maybe help the 3m clear film to last the 7 years its supposed to last, stay adhered and not discolor on me.
