"The 1KR-FE is a 1.0 L (998 cc) version built in Japan and Poland. Bore is 71 mm and stroke is 84 mm, with a compression ratio of 10.5:1. Output is 68 hp (50 kW) at 6500 RPM with 68.6 ft·lbf (93.0 N·m) of torque at 3600 RPM. Carbon emission levels are 109 g/km."

Wow that is fucking weak so yeah a 1nz swap would boost you up 38 crank horsepower assuming that wiki is speces @ the crank not the wheels.

I think the small engine in this car is always going to be a problem so changing it to the 1.5l will at least get you into more options for aftermarket go fast add ons.
Or you could trade the car for something a bit bigger like this http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2578665
