I would avoid the use of WD-40 in just about any application as it attracts dust. You're better off with a "dry" lubricant such as a graphite-based or teflon-based one.

WD40 drys out and becomes gummy. When that happens, try LPS 1 to dissolve the WD40, then go to a dry lubricant.

They make a graphite lock lubricant you can get at any hardware store in the US
