Take it from me... on the subject of power, never make decisions based on "feel."
Why don't you go dyno that thing and make sure you're not just feeling what you expected to happen rather than what actually is?

Not using a straight thru muffler will help the back pressure, like a dynomax turbo muffler or similar style.
